Anastrozole (Arimidex)

In the context of bodybuilding, some individuals use Arimidex off-label to mitigate the side effects of anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are synthetic forms of testosterone used to enhance muscle growth and athletic performance. Side effects:

Common side effects include hot flashes, headache, bone pain, trouble sleeping, dizziness, stomach upset, nausea/vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight gain, tiredness/weakness, increased coughing, and sore throat.

Other side effects can include joint pain, achiness, stiffness, rash, insomnia, peripheral edema (swelling in your legs, ankles, or feet caused by fluid retention), lymphedema (buildup of lymphatic fluid in the tissues of your arm, causing swelling), and mood changes such as depression.

More serious side effects can include easily broken bones, pain/swelling of the joint/muscle/tendon, mental/mood changes (such as depression), numb/tingling skin, swelling hands/ankle/feet, shortness of breath, unusual vaginal discharge/bleeding/burning/itching/odor, pain/redness/swelling of arms or legs, vision changes, and signs of liver disease (such as nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine).

Other serious side effects can include decreased bone density (reduced bone strength), skin reactions, increased cholesterol levels, heart-related side effects, and allergic reactions.

Drug Interactions

  • Estrogens: Arimidex should not be taken with estrogen-containing medications as they may reduce the effectiveness of anastrozole.

  • Tamoxifen: Concurrent use with tamoxifen is not recommended as it may decrease the efficacy of Arimidex.

  • Other Medications: Arimidex may interact with various other drugs, including but not limited to methadone, cholera vaccine, flibanserin, ivacaftor, lomitapide, and tibolone. It's important to keep a list of all your medications and share this information with your healthcare provider.

The general dosage range for Arimidex in a bodybuilding context is typically 0.5mg to 1mg daily.

Some sources suggest a dosage of 0.5mg twice a week starting from the second week of the anabolic steroid cycle.

Others recommend a dosage of 0.5mg to 1mg each day, but caution that 0.5mg per day may be too much for some individuals, in which case a dosage of 0.5mg every other day may be more appropriate.

Users on testosterone replacement therapy have suggested taking 0.05mg to 1mg Arimidex once every three days.

These dosages can be adjusted based on individual response and whether the drug appears to be working effectively.
